Brief Profile

Northern Sorb, German Sorben, are a Slavic minority living in eastern Germany and inhabiting their homeland in Lusatia.

They are known also by their former autonyms Lusatians and Wends. Lusatia is a region divided between Germany (the states of Saxony and Brandenburg) and Poland. They are concentrated in the Spree River valley.

Though surrounded by Germans for centuries, the present-day Sorbs have managed to preserve their own ethnic identity, language, literature, and customs. This is evidenced in that street signs are bi-lingual, both in German and Northern Sorbian.

The majority claim Roman Catholicism as their religious preference. Howeover, in practice they are more non-religious.

Prayer Points

  • Pray that God will work in the hearts and minds of Northern Sorbs to understand the truth found in a creator God who dwelt among us via Jesus Christ in order to walk alongside us daily.
  • Pray God will open doors for evangelical believers to share a clear message of Christ.
